Collection Complete!
The opal fossil collection is officially complete, and it feels like the perfect finale to a wonderfully iridescent week. Diving into the world of opalization—how it forms, why it happens, and which ancient creatures have been transformed into shimmering gemstones—has been such a rewarding rabbit hole. The art that came out of this theme might be some of my favorite yet. The Dunkleosteus especially turned out stunning, and every fossil illustration from this series has its own little glow.
Now that the opal fossil collection has wrapped up, it feels like the perfect moment to look ahead at what’s next on the art agenda. I’m excited to keep building out this weekly rhythm—each week built around its own theme, and each day carrying a little ritual of its own. If you’ve been paying attention, you might’ve already spotted the pattern: Messy Mondays for loose sketches, Teaching Tuesdays for science and process posts, Wednesday for shop and product spotlights, Thursday dedicated to developing a larger centerpiece piece (like the Dunkleosteus), and Friday/Saturday reserved for the final reveal of the week’s artwork and products.
I’m also planning to turn all the opalized fossil illustrations into a full sticker sheet, though that one will take a bit of time to assemble. As for the Dunkleosteus, I’m still deciding what form it should take—print, sticker, apparel, something more experimental? If anyone has ideas, I’m genuinely open to suggestions.
Next week I will be tackling some bizarre creatures of the past. Keep your eyes peeled!
