Fish Surveys, house work and YouTube videos

Here for my monthly blog post. Mostly been busy with my job and working on little projects around the house. My boyfriend and I have been very busy making a little homestead for ourselves – and I am enjoying it tremendously!

Anywho…along with getting back into streaming – I also have been trying to upload some videos on YouTube when I can. May latest videos include redrawing kid coloring book pages in my style. So far both videos are from a dinosaur book – but I do plan on getting different subject matter other that dinos. If you are interested in watching those videos check out my YouTube page. Link is in the banner.

Other than that I have been drawing when I can and getting back into playing ARK.

Leah Out!

I am really bad at posting on my own website…anyway since the last post more products have been posted on my Etsy shop. More prints and stickers! So go check that out if you have not all ready, also I have started streaming again. Only a few days a month to start, since I do have a day job. Content is mostly art/nature related. Go check if you are a twitch watcher and want something different to veg out to. Lastly in this post – I am trying to set up a newsletter – but my website is not being cooperative lately, so it might be a hot minute before that get started. But I plan on that is in the works.

Until next time….

#Dinocember Challenge

Back in December I started the #Dinocember challenge, as the name suggests it consists of drawing dinosaurs (or other ancient critters) through out the month of December. It took me until the end of January to complete it but I did compete it. You can see the full spreads of my sketchbook on my Instagram

I am in the works in cleaning up the images and making a small booklet out of it. Just so I have a crisp version available. I have yet to decide if I want to make it a product on Etsy or not.

Well that’s what I got for now.

Smell ya later.

Rufffed Grouse Commission
Ruffed Grouse Commission

Recently received a commission to do a Ruffed Grouse in gray scale. It was a nice change of pace to do something in just pure graphite. The client has a resident Ruffed Grouse that is very friendly and likes the spend time on his porch. So the client wanted something of him so he can put holiday cards. The picture about is only a crop of the bust since I didn’t want to show the whole piece in respect of the client. However this grouse had very distinctive thigh feathers which I thought was neat. My favorite part of the piece has to be the face though. Really like how the area around the eye came out.

All in all a really fun piece to work on and I hope to get more commissions in the future.

Leah out…

This is the first 12×12 inch painting I did for my Christmas presents for my friends and family this year. I am not that strong of a painter, so this is also a way for me to try a new medium. Working through this first painting really helped me gain the confidence of putting down the paint and living with that decision. For a little more control I did use POSCA pens for the blue jay. However I think it came out nicely with the traditional acrylic paint. All and all I am happy on how it came out.

Here is the second 12×12 inch piece. Again I used both traditional acrylic paint and POSCA pens. I only used the POSCA’s for detailing however.  What I am most proud of in this piece is the color mixing. Getting all the blue and grey tones together without really losing parts of the painting into one another. I did this best with the heron I think. The blue heron has all these shades of blues and greys and I was worried it was all going to blend together all muddy and just look like butt at the end. Especially with the blues and blacks in the background. To my surprise it came out crisp and clean and easy to read. So my knowledge on coloring mixing is all ready improving. Which makes me happy.

You can also see these paintings on my twitter and Instagram, links can be found on the side bar.

Leah out!

2017 was not an eventful year for photography for me. However 2018 seems to be fairing better. Here are some pictures of birds in the winter snow.
